Using Your Blog to Improve Your SEO

Blogs are everywhere. They are a must for Fortune 500 companies—even for your local foodie discussing their recent dumpling experience and why you should or shouldn’t try them. Blogs are the perfect place for you to further distinguish your brand voice.

Whether you use it to discuss trends in your industry or just share a cool experience you or your company had, your blog is a great opportunity for you to improve your Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Let’s take a look at some ways a blog can help with your SEO ranking.

    1. Fill Content Gaps – You likely have some phrases or keywords on your site that you would like to start ranking for or are having trouble increasing rank for. You can use your blog focus on those keywords. This doesn’t mean writing a blog that says Invisalign 50 times. It means writing a blog post that would be helpful for someone looking for more information on the benefits of Invisalign versus traditional braces, for example.
    2. Increase Your Social Media Presence – In a previous blog post, we wrote about how SEO and social media work together. A blog is no different! After you post your blog to your website, be sure to post it on your social media networks as well. Not only does this help to keep your content fresh and your audience engaged, it also helps to add more links which can increase referral traffic back to you.
    3. Speaking of Links… Writing a blog opens you up to a world of opportunity when it comes to linking that you wouldn’t have otherwise. When people are looking for content, they aren’t usually looking for a stock web page that has the same information they can get anywhere. They are looking for something that is written in a way anyone can understand but still shows the author is an expert on a topic. When they find that in the form of a blog potentially written by you, they are likely to share that content. This continues to create quality links back to your website. These visitors coming in from backlinks tell google you are trustworthy and your website is showing visitors what they want to see.

These are just a few of the ways that having an engaging blog can help your SEO efforts. If you don’t already have a blog, it’s not too late to start! Start showing your patrons who you are and what you are about– all while helping your business grow.
